About All Care

Additional Dental Services at a Discount

Preventive services such as oral examinations, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants are usually covered by your dental plan insurance 100 percent after you pay the deductible. These preventive services are excellent at least once per year, and can detect problems before they grow into major issues. Sometimes, however, you’ll need services that go beyond the basic.

Dental plan insurance from most major providers will often partially cover some services you or your family might need at some point. In-network dentists may offer you a discount on other services, so always be sure to discuss costs with your dentist before receiving services. You can even request an estimate if you like.

Extractions
Sometimes that tooth just needs to come out. Kids especially will often need a little help to finally lose all those baby teeth, or if one or two extras appear and start to crowd out adult teeth. Don’t tie a string around the doorknob and try to extract your own tooth, please. You’ll need the root removed at the same time the tooth is extracted to prevent infection.

Amalgam fillings
These are the basic fillings, made of metal and incredibly durable and long-lasting. For molars, silver-colored fillings are usually acceptable because people will rarely see them - unless you have an especially large grin. The more natural, tooth-colored composite fillings are better for front teeth. Read your all care dental plan benefits book carefully to see what’s covered.

Dentures, bridges and braces
Whether you need a few missing teeth “replaced” or a few straightened out, your dentist can provide these services to you. Don’t hesitate to pay a little extra for good-quality, durable materials that make your smile look great. Your smile is the first impression you make on new friends, and your confidence shines through when your smile looks natural.

Denture or bridge repair or replacement
If you need to have your dentures or bridge repaired or replaced, read your dental plan insurance carefully. Most plans will have a waiting period before these items are covered, and they are usually covered at a discount and not 100 percent. Check your benefits book carefully or call your provider for more information.

Endodontic procedures (root canals)
If you’ve never had a root canal procedure, count yourself among the incredibly lucky. It is not a pleasant experience. Proper preventive care can often prevent a root canal, so keep all those appointments with your dentist. Endodontic procedures are often covered at a discount, so the pain in your wallet can be minimized.

Some plans will even partially cover treatment for “extras” like crown and cast restorations or TMJ treatments. (TMJ is also known as temporomandibular joint dysfunction, caused by tooth grinding.) Every plan is different, so check your benefits book carefully.

Unfortunately, out-of-pocket expenses do not apply toward your deductible or your annual maximum benefits. You can often leverage the power of your dental plan insurance if you visit participating dentists, and receive nice discounts on procedures not covered under the all care dental plan.
