Finding Affordable Dental Plans

Individuals and families alike need to consider the total costs of the necessary goods and services they require. They must examine the impact of all out of pocket expenses on their household budgets and financial plans. This is especially true in the current economy. So, where can people turn to for affordable dental plans? With health insurance policies being trimmed down to keep them affordable, “luxuries” like vision and dental have been eliminated from a majority of employer provided benefits packages.

The answer to this dilemma may be a bit surprising to some people. While many people turn to their existing insurance companies for dental coverage, the fact is that the best prices and options come from discount dental plans.

Many people would argue the point saying that the members pay their annual fee plus the cost of the procedures and services provided by the dentists. Realistically however affordable dental plans provide significant discounts on the costs of every service they provide, which can actually amount to far less than a standard annual insurance policy.

Additionally, affordable dental plans do not impose the widespread limitations and restrictions so often found in standard insurance coverage. Let’s look at a standard individual plan. For around one hundred dollars a year an individual could purchase an affordable dental plan from a discounted network. With this plan they could choose from tens of thousands of dentists and dental specialists in the country. They would not have to get pre-approval for any procedure they required, nor would they need to wait for a “hold” period before seeking care. When they had the procedure performed they could expect to receive around forty to sixty percent off the published costs.

If the same individual had an average dental insurance policy they could expect to pay around five hundred to a thousand dollars, or more, for their dental coverage. Additionally, they would still have an out of pocket expense for the treatment they received, which could realistically require fifty percent of the published cost.

What does this mean? In the first example, the individual realized a one hundred dollar annual membership fee and a forty percent discount. In the second example, the individual saw a one thousand dollar membership fee and a fifty percent discount. Clearly the benefits are available to the individual who purchased an affordable dental plan from a discount dental plan.

What if someone wants to include their spouse and children in their affordable dental plan? That is perfectly fine because all discount dental plans make both individual and family memberships available. In fact, most have hundreds of pediatric dentists in the networks as well, which is the ideal solution for a family in need of dental care for their children.

There is a lot to be said about the flexibility and portability of the large networks in affordable dental plans. They allow for maximum coverage and services, ask for incredibly affordable premiums and do not prevent an individual or family from obtaining the kind of basic and specialized dental care they so often require.
